  • In a pocket sprung mattress, each spring is individually sewn into its own fabric pocket and operates independently. This means they respond to body contours individually, reducing motion transfer between sleeping partners. Open coil springs are interconnected, meaning movement on one side of the bed is more easily felt on the other.

  • Generally a higher spring count provides a more refined, contouring feel. A mattress with 1,000–1,500 springs in a King size is considered standard, while 2,000+ is considered premium. That said, spring quality and gauge also matter — a well-constructed 1,000-spring mattress can outperform a poorly made 2,000-spring one.

  • Yes — pocket sprung mattresses are one of the best choices for couples, particularly those with different body weights, as each spring responds independently. This minimises the 'roll together' effect and means both sleepers get appropriate support for their individual weight and sleeping position.

  • Most modern pocket sprung mattresses are no-turn, meaning you only need to rotate them head-to-foot. However, if your mattress is double-sided (this will be stated on the product page), turning it regularly will extend its lifespan. We recommend rotating all mattresses every 3 months during the first year.

  • Pocket sprung mattresses are suitable for slatted bases with a slat gap of no more than 7cm. They can be used on a solid divan base but benefit from a slightly flexible base for optimal performance. They are generally not recommended for ottoman bases as the continuous flexing can stress the spring system over time.
