Pillow Top Mattresses

Unlike a traditional mattress topper that sits loosely on the bed, a pillow top is permanently stitched onto the top of the mattress. This extra layer, typically made from soft materials like down, feathers, memory foam, or gel, provides a sink-in feeling that's incredibly inviting. Our collection of Pillow Top mattresses comes in single, small double, double, king and super king sizes.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you order.

  • A pillow top mattress has an extra layer of soft padding — usually foam, fibre, or a combination — sewn onto the top surface of the mattress. This creates a distinctly plush, cushioned sleeping surface that feels noticeably softer than a standard mattress while still being supported by a spring or foam core beneath.

  • The pillow top layer can compress slightly with regular use, which is why regular rotation is particularly important. We recommend rotating your pillow top mattress head-to-foot every 3 months. Pillow top mattresses are single-sided, so they should be rotated but not flipped.

  • Yes — pillow top mattresses are particularly popular with side sleepers as the extra cushioning layer relieves pressure on the hips and shoulders. The plush top comfort is paired with a supportive core so you get cushioning without sacrificing underlying support.

  • No — pillow top mattresses work with both slatted bases and solid divan bases. Ensure slat spacing is no more than 7cm to prevent uneven support. The mattress depth including the pillow top layer is specified on each product page — bear this in mind when checking bed clearance and bedding fit.

  • Pillow top mattresses are designed for adult use. For children, a medium-firm mattress without a pillow top is generally more appropriate as it provides better postural support for a growing spine. Please see our children's mattress range for age-appropriate options.
